Living Stones Update

Jan 2010

Update on the Living Stones project is as follows.-

 

Faculty

 Application No 0818. granted 12th January 2010 and confirmation of available finance acknowledged by7 the chancellors office on 20th January 2010..

 

Tender Process

Tenders received from 4 main contractors and 2 joinery companies. Prices range from £60855 to £124638 excluding Joinery. Joinery Tenders range from £12085 to £17027. (Prices exc VAT)

Tenders were reviewed in detail with our architect on 16th December 2009 and financial report obtained for lowest price contractor.

Minor variations from ‘interest group’ meeting and building control are being costed to achieve firm fixed price for full scope of work before contract award.

 

PCC approvals

PCC meeting was held on 19th January 2010.

a)       The PCC authorised the appointment of Hare Builders to undertake the phase 2 works for a maximum sum of £80000 + VAT including joinery subject to building regulation consent. Work to commence in March and complete by end May 2010.

b)       The PCC authorised the purchase of 50 folding chairs of the design recently trialled for a sum not to exceed £3000.

 

Building Regulations

Application for building reg’s consent submitted and acknowledged 21s December 09.(Reg No 11869/09/FP) Feedback received re emergency lighting, fire alarms, and colour schemes for the  sight impaired. Response is in progress.

 

Grant Funding Applications

National Churches Trust application was waiting on the Faculty being granted. This will now be progressed.

A possible opportunity to approach the Bridge Wardens Trust for Organ replacement grant funding is being investigated. Closing date is 2nd April 1010

 

Target dates

Building Reg’s consent Jan 2010.

Contract award early Feb.

Ground work commencing Mar 2010 followed by internal works for which the scope  is  drainage, WC, flower arranging area, crèche, welcoming area, refreshment facilities and South door disabled access.

 

Phases

Phase 1 Stonework repair – completed.

Phase 2 Drainage, WC, flower arranging, refreshment & welcoming area, South door disabled access – work due to start imminently.

Phase 3 Tower & West door entrance plus damaged pipe organ removal.

Phase 4 Worship and music area

Phase 5 Heating survey / replacement?

 

Next steps

Finalise building regulation consent

Finalise colour schemes

Develop disposal options for pipe organ and develop designs for West door entrance and base of tower.

Develop designs for music and worship areas. Identify replacement organ.

Survey heating requirements and options
